Art Toys TM
A city guide and application component for exploring shops and events focused on selling art toys/designer collectibles.

Concept
Type+Image integration for a guide to West Coast based shops and events selling enigmatic collectible toys.
A broad category of collectible toys that serve as contemporary art for some.
The Fine Art world criticizes the legitimacy of art toys, collectible pieces that offer a way for people to be more involved in contemporary art; they’re affordable, space friendly, and affiliated with pop culture; they are not just for purchase; they have fluctuating prices that
appreciate over time and aspire to some of the
world’s largest collectors to fill their homes with art toys, further propelling them to iconic heights.
Since Art Toys are just a single category of Collector Toys, the guide expands into the application in project 2.
Exploration
The printed guide was loosely based on the lack of ample guides and books dedicated to art toys. I created and started to build a quirky design style of geometric shapes, big block 3D titles and type at several different angles. The parallel application design was to be an extension. Initial sketches and digital designs were based on presenting the forms of the, essentially dolls that make art toys.

Final Solution
In the end, the final solution took many forms. Unifying the type was one task. Identifying the value through the information was more difficult as this is a tough topic to tackle and not an easy guide to make when one considers the displacement of small business that have shuttered due to the pandemic
